Many struggle with motivation when it comes to losing weight or getting to the gym for that workout they have been meaning to do since they set their new year’s resolutions back on January 1st. Unfortunately motivation is not something which comes to you!
On our health and wellness journey, we need something which is going to encourage us to take action… the 5 second rule could help (and I’m not talking about whether the sweet you dropped on the floor is safe to eat!).
Let me explain…
If you have an impulse to act on a goal, you must physically move within 5 seconds or your brain will kill the idea. For example, if you have a goal of exercising, set daily reminders on your phone that will prompt you to go to the gym. If your goal is to change your eating habits, take action right now by researching healthy meal options.
Reality is, if you don’t start doing the things you don’t feel like doing, you will wake up one year from today and be in exactly the same place - a problem so many of us can identify with.
I talk about this concept in the respect of health and fitness, but in fact it is valuable in all areas of your life. So whatever your goals, show yourself and the world, that you’re serious by taking action. However insignificant that action may seem, do it RIGHT NOW.
The science behind it is simple….
When you physically move, your brain starts to build new habits. When you do something you’re not used to doing, you are in the act of building new habits and erasing existing ones.
For example, the fact that you took the time to read this blog suggests that you are already taking the time to invest in yourself
So why not give it a try? Count down from 5 (not up as you will just carry on counting!) and TAKE ACTION!
Apply the 5 second rule to your day and share your story on social media using the hashtags #5SecondRule #poletrainharlow - we’d love to hear your success!
